Ilica

View larger map: Cesme To See and To Do Map (Cesme.Net)

Ilica Beach is without a doubt Cesme's most famous beach and many will tell you that it's also the most beautiful. The length of the beach is more than two kilometers, the white sand is soft but not too sticky, the water is shallow and gradually deepens. And then there is the colour of the water; a clear turquoise that can easily rival the best beaches in the Caribbean. In short, you will find all the qualities of a top notch beach at Cesme's Ilica Beach.

Are there any downsides? Yes, there are. During the past few years, the increasing popularity of Ilica has also brought overly large crowds on the weekends. On such days, you will hardly know where to park your car, or where to park yourself on the beach. The beach is completely open to northerly winds and Cesme is famous for its breeze and winds. Some really windy days will drive beach goers crazy, even though the waves are never too high the wind can get quite bothersome.

The municipality of Cesme thankfully hasn't followed the same thinking it has at some of its other beaches like Altinkum and has allocated only a small percentage of the Ilica Beach to beach clubs. Therefore, most of the beach is free of charge and you can comfortably bring your long chairs, parasols and other beach equipment. If you wish to use the facilities at the paid areas of the beach, you can also do that. Even though most of the beach is a public beach, it is still very clean as most beach goers seem to have good manners.

The water at Ilica is warm compared to the beaches on the south side of the peninsula. It is said that the water is warm because of some thermal hot springs that are below the seabed. Indeed, if you'd like to swim in these hot springs, we've indicated where you can do so on the map above as Ilica Hot Springs.

There are other things to do and see in the Ilica region besides the beach. For lunch, you can try Dost Pide, a Cesme classic, or eat a famous Cesme kumru sandwich at one of the nearby Kumrucu Sevki's or you can have a delicious doner kebap at the legendary Altin Kapi restaurant. You could take a stroll towards the Ilica shopping area or walk a bit more and see the beautiful Yildizburnu area. If you'd like to stay at Ilica, one of Turkey's most beautiful hotels, the Cesme Sheraton is located here or you can choose from one of the many other hotel alternatives.

While you're in Cesme, be sure to visit Ilica, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. If you can go on a weekday, you will enjoy it even more.
